  • Planting a tree? Installing a fence? Planning a home improvement? Call 811.

Did you know it’s the law to make this call? Electric power lines, natural gas pipelines, water pipes, communications lines, and other utility services can be within a few feet of the ground ’s surface. Not knowing where they are can result in personal injury, property damage, and neighborhood service interruptions. Even a small dent or a scrape can cause damage, resulting in a leak or service-wide disruptions.

For Emergency Responders

Fire fighters or police officers are often the first to arrive at a public safety emergency. These first responders are most likely to encounter the potential hazards of isolated flood hazards, road collapse or sewage spills. In an effort to help prepare first responders for situations they may encounter, Liberty Utilities meets and provides local responders with valuable information annually.

Groundwater Protection

We live on top of our drinking water and activities on the land surface can affect the quality of our groundwater To help protect our water source, Liberty secures all ground water sources with security fencing, locked entrances and security lighting. Well-heads are grouted and sealed with vents protected by 24 mesh screen to prevent containments entering into the aquifer.  All sources are monitored daily and inspected for any intrusions. The Arkansas Department of Health performs routine sampling of the aquifer for detection of regulated and non-regulated containments. Do your part to help protect our water source with these tips:

  • Reduce household chemical use and properly dispose of motor oil and unwanted or unused chemicals and medications.
  • Limit the amount of pesticides and fertilizers used in your yard and minimize runoff, which can carry chemicals into surface water and groundwater.
  • If pesticides, oil, gasoline, or other hazardous products leak or spill onto your driveway or other hard surface, use kitty litter or other absorbent material on the spill.  Do not wash down the area.
  • Remember, preventing contamination is far less expensive than cleaning up contaminated groundwater.

Customer Responsiblity

Let’s work together to protect our water system

At Liberty, we maintain and improve our water system to help ensure that we can deliver safe, reliable water service to homes, businesses, and critical services like fire departments. One way you can help maintain the water system serving you is to be aware of your responsibility as a customer. Property owners are responsible for maintaining the service line running between the home or building exterior and the meter. In most cases, the line was put in place at the time the home or building was originally built. Depending on the age of your home, your service line may have gone through years, or even decades, of seasonal changes, root invasions, or increasing blockages. Any of these may cause problems with your service and usually occur with little to no advance notice.
