We live on top of our drinking water and activities on the land surface can affect the quality of our groundwater To help protect our water source, Liberty secures all ground water sources with security fencing, locked entrances and security lighting. Well-heads are grouted and sealed with vents protected by 24 mesh screen to prevent containments entering into the aquifer. All sources are monitored daily and inspected for any intrusions. The Arkansas Department of Health performs routine sampling of the aquifer for detection of regulated and non-regulated containments. Do your part to help protect our water source with these tips:
- Reduce household chemical use and properly dispose of motor oil and unwanted or unused chemicals and medications.
- Limit the amount of pesticides and fertilizers used in your yard and minimize runoff, which can carry chemicals into surface water and groundwater.
- If pesticides, oil, gasoline, or other hazardous products leak or spill onto your driveway or other hard surface, use kitty litter or other absorbent material on the spill. Do not wash down the area.
- Remember, preventing contamination is far less expensive than cleaning up contaminated groundwater.
